Supplying PostScript

PostScript & Application Files.
If you cannot supply a PDF file always supply us with PostScript and application files (working files created in In-Design, Quark, etc.) and a complete set of up-to-date hard copy pages from your project.
Hard Copy Must Match Files.
It is essential that the electronic files and the hard copy you provide match exactly.
Hard copy should be provided at 100% of the final page size.
If you make last minute changes to the job before you send your initial disks, create new PostScript files and be sure to reprint the hard copy for all altered pages.
For example, if you make a change on page 16 and you have already created a PostScript file that contains pages 12-24, you must create a new PostScript file containing pages 12-24. We can't substitute an isolated page.
If you supply us with a PostScript file containing just the altered page we may have to stop production on your job and request a new file from you.
Crop and Registration Marks. When creating files for imposition, please make sure crop marks are included on all hard copy. If you are printing a letter-size page on letter-size paper, and print at a reduced size to include crop marks, please indicate on the hard copy what the final, full-size page margins should be. Most page layout software offers an automatic crop mark function. This is preferable to hand-drawn marks. If you place marks by hand, they must be deleted before creating the PostScript file. Automated registration marks must be included to separate multiple color jobs Files & Pages in Order. Your PostScript files have to be in sequential order for them to impose correctly. If you have made files that contain pages from throughout the book (such as section openers all in one file), you will have to provide them as individual one-page files.
Note: Be sure to include all blank book pages in your files. Also, make sure you have created your PostScript files with the pages in front to back order.
Margins & Spacing. It is crucial that you verify that all of the margins and the distances to running heads and running feet are consistent throughout your project. Inconsistent margins will make it impossible to electronically impose your file properly.
Spaces for Graphics. If you are leaving space on your pages for us to manually place graphics, please draw a black box over the entire area that is to include the graphic. Exception: If there is to be a rule printed around the graphic, include only the rule, not filled with black. Rules should be a minimum of 1 point in weight whenever possible. Rules finer than 1 point in weight will require extra handwork and entail extra charges.
Fonts. We support the standard Adobe type library and encourage its use. However, if you alter the font in any way (keyboard mapping, etc.) or use fonts from another manufacturer (BitStream, Cassidy & Greene, etc.) or TrueType fonts, you must supply a one-time-use copy of these fonts with each job so that we may image your files. We cannot legally keep customer fonts on file.
