I'm
ready to go! How do I submit my manuscript?
We have three easy steps to publishing. Send us your inside pages and
cover and we'll do the rest. You can create a printable manuscript easily
in Microsoft Word or Publisher, QuarkXpress or In-Design. At No Duff
Stuff we prefer In-Design or QuarkXpress files as Microsoft Word or
Publisher can cause problems in making a PDF file, however we can overcome
most issues and are happy to use most word processing and page layout
files.
What
are the manuscript submission requirements?
Authors are encouraged to provide pdf files of the inside sheets and
the cover. Should you require assistance preparing your files, No Duff
Stuff can provide help with provision of artwork, layout scanning your
pictures and editing assistance. Send us your application files along
with the fonts and artwork and we can make the press ready PDF for you.
What size will my book be?
You can choose sizes from 138mm X 216mm to 174mm X 256mm. Oversize books
are also within reach.
What book binding options do I have?
You have the choice of perfect binding, saddle stiching, paperback or
hardcover.
How do I get started?
Contact by e-mail No
Duff Stuff state your requirements, number of pages, photographs
artwork required for covers etc. We will reply to you.
Will
I see a proof before my book is printed?
Yes. We'll email you a paginated PDF file for your approval before we
proceed with printing.
How
long will it take to publish my book?
When we have arrived at press-ready files, it can take up to 30 days
to print your book.
What
if I cannot supply or need help to produce Press Ready Files?
There are a number of variables to consider when estimating the time
it takes to produce your book. Pre-press or the preparation
of the typography, page layouts, illustrations, cover and design can
all be handled by No Duff Stuff.
Depending on format choices and the kind of files you provide, we may
need a week or two to prepare an electronic proof for you to review
and approve.
Other considerations that may delay or accelerate publication dates
include proofreading, editing, illustration and book design. Special
requirements such as finished size, paper stock, and bindery methods
can also impact the delivery schedule.

What
are the advantages of self-publishing?
Self-publishing can be an exciting, frustrating, confusing and rewarding
experience. So why self-publish? Well, unlike traditional publishing,
self-publishing allows authors full creative control over their manuscript.
At No Duff Stuff, you have control over the cover, content, layout,
illustrations and price of your book. As well, you retain the rights
to your work and keep the profit from each book sold. You can print
as few or as many books as you require, and you control the marketing
and sales of your book.
What is print-on-demand (POD) publishing?
POD is a new print technology whereby books can be printed one at a
time or in small batches, for a relatively low price. While the per-unit
costs may be higher than traditional publishing, the up-front costs
for smaller print runs may be quite a bit lower. Authors and publishers
can now publish as many or as few books as they require, and no longer
need to pay for and warehouse thousands of copies at a time. As well,
authors no longer need contracts with publishers or agents to get their
book in print.
How can I distribute my book?
Hiring a distributor may make it easier to get your books into bookstores
or other outlets. How do you find a distributor? The best thing to do
is start early. Even before the book is printed, think about your target
audience and the type of book you have written. Is it a local history,
fiction, fitness, business strategy or cookbook? Who buys this type
of book and where? Next, contact different book distributors. Be prepared
to discuss the type of book you have written and who you think will
buy it. You may have to try a few distributors before you settle on
one that’s right for you. You can find a list of book distributors
easily on the web. If you’d prefer to go it alone, you can apply
directly to Amazon.co.uk
How can I market my book?
Press releases, speaking engagements, advertising, direct mail, book
reviews, online bookstores, book signings, catalogues, directories.
There are as many different ways to market your book as there are books.
The key is to understand just who your audience is, and make sure they
know about your book. Also, make your book readily available and easy
to purchase.

How
is No Duff Stuff different? At No Duff Stuff, you have complete
control over your work. You determine the content, layout, cover design,
marketing and sales. You can print as many or as few copies as you wish
and what’s more, you’ll receive all the proceeds of the
sale of your books. Most importantly, you retain ownership and keep
all the rights to your creation. Traditional publishers require you
to print large quantities of your book (1000 or 10,000 copies), they
control the layout, design and marketing, control the rights to your
book and give you a royalty for each copy sold.
What kinds of books does No Duff Stuff produce?
We provide press ready files for all types of books, including autobiographies,
fiction and local-history archives e-books. No Duff Stuff, however,
reserves the right to reject any manuscript we feel is inappropriate
for us to publish.
